LEED for Neighbourhood Development goes Canadian

Created by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED for Neighbourhood Development (ND) 2009 assesses sustainable communities, awarding points for elements such as walkability and public space.

The country's largest annual show on the design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment, the event encompasses smaller shows like the HomeBuilder & Renovator Expo, PM [Project Management] Expo, DesignTrends, Concrete Canada, and the National GreenBuilding Conference.

Atlas opens new polyiso facility in Vancouver

Atlas Roofing Corp., has opened a polyisocyanurate (polyiso) manufacturing facility in Metro Vancouver to deal with the region's growing demand for roof and wall insulation products. All products from the plant are certified under Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association's (PIMA's) QualityMark Program, demonstrating third-party certification for thermal insulation values.

New Canadian standard for healthcare facility design

A new Canadian Standard Association (CSA) standard can help hospitals and healthcare facilities reduce infections, plan for pandemics, protect newborns and the elderly, and care for obese patients. Released last month, CSA Z8000, Canadian Healthcare Facilities–Planning, Design, and Construction, sets out requirements and addresses concerns specific to healthcare facilities, beyond what is contained in building codes and guidelines.
