New partnership aims to build drone and e-aircraft infrastructure

A Montreal architecture firm and an advanced air mobility company are partnering to develop infrastructure for electric aircraft and drones across Canada.

Figurr Architects Collective has partnered with Aureum Mobility to advance vertiport infrastructure nationwide. Under the agreement, Figurr will act as Aureum’s Canadian architecture and technology distribution partner.

The companies will work on the planning, design, and implementation of vertiports. They say the infrastructure will need to be safe, sustainable, and scalable as new forms of air transportation develop.

Advanced air mobility includes electric aircraft, drones, and autonomous aerial systems. Vertiports will serve as hubs for their operations. They will need space for aircraft, passengers, charging, maintenance, and connections to other transportation networks.

Aureum provides modular infrastructure for vertiports and droneports, as well as charging technology and operational systems. Its systems are designed to work with different aircraft manufacturers and operating requirements.

The partnership will bring those systems into Figurr’s architectural and infrastructure work in Canada.

Figurr and Aureum will provide services ranging from feasibility studies and site selection to master planning and architectural design. Their work will also cover infrastructure design, regulatory and permitting support, and the integration of vertiports with airports and urban developments.

Figurr will distribute Aureum’s infrastructure technology across Canada as part of the partnership.

The companies say Canada is an important market for advanced air mobility because of its large distances and remote and underserved communities. They say the technology could help expand transportation options beyond major urban centres.
