Canadian Wood Council calls for wood project ideas

The Canadian Wood Council (CWC) is seeking Expression of Interest (EOI) proposals for wood projects reaching 10 storeys or more.
The organization, with funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), is hoping to showcase technical advancements, environmental benefits, and viability of wood structures in the country.
The call for EOIs from developers, design firms, and institutions is part of the Tall Wood Projects Demonstration Projects initiative; submissions will be judged based on criteria including:
- project timelines;
- building height and proposed amount of storeys;
- practicality; and
- environmental impact.
“The goal of the initiative is to support selected proponents to push the boundaries of wood construction and design and to reach new heights of possibility with innovative solutions that are backed by scientific research and technical expertise,” CWC’s Etienne Lalonde explained.
A short list selection will be released in November, with chosen projects scheduled for construction launch in September 2014.
CWC is aiming to encourage wood building in the country as a way of producing carbon-neutral, cost-effective buildings that support local economies.
EOI submissions will be accepted until September 20. Click here for more information.
