British Columbia’s largest deconstruction project is underway in Burnaby, where a 19,974 m2 (215,000 sf) industrial building is being deconstructed to reuse materials and transform the site into the future Blake Village community hub.
Nearly 226,796 kg (500,000 lb) of Douglas Fir lumber, timbers, and glulam beams from the former Saputo dairy site will be repurposed. These materials are intended for a new Metro Vancouver District Energy facility that will provide heat and hot water to up to 50,000 homes in Vancouver and Burnaby.
This site will in the future become Peterson’s Blake Village, delivering nearly 5,500 homes (condos, market rentals, and affordable rentals), 1.6 ha (4 acres) of open space, and commercial areas.
