The Canadian Wood Council’s Ontario WoodWorks program and the Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA) have recognized six winning projects as part of the Ontario Wood Design Awards program.

WoodWorks British Columbia announced the winners of the 2018 Wood Design Awards at the Vancouver Convention Centre, honouring excellence in wood building and design, and leadership and innovation in wood use. Presented in association with the Canadian Wood Council (CWC), this year’s awards were dominated by innovative architectural and structural design in taller and larger mass timber buildings.

The Winnipeg Wood Solutions Fair (WWSF) will be held April 11 at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. Presented by WoodWorks and the Canadian Wood Council (CWC), the event will showcase wood use in commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-unit residential construction.

Last week, WoodWorks British Columbia, a division of the Canadian Wood Council, announced its nominees for the 14th annual Wood Design Awards. More than 100 projects and industry professionals are recognized across 14 categories, including the newly introduced Prefabricated Structural Wood division, which honours creative design and innovative use of prefabricated wood systems, components, and modules in a variety of building types.

Registration is open for the Ontario WoodWorks TimBEER engineering workshops, held in Ottawa and Toronto. The events will discuss new developments in mass timber design and explore interesting timber projects through interactive design sessions and live testing demonstrations. Additionally, attendees are invited to sample beer from local breweries.

The Canadian Wood Council’s WoodWorks program is hosting mid-rise workshops at three locations throughout Ontario in early March. On March 3, the group will hold its first workshop at the Delta London Armouries in London, Ont., followed by events March 4 at the Paramount Event Venue in Woodbridge (in the Greater Toronto Area [GTA]), and on March 5 at Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa.
