Steve Gusterson, FCSC, CTR, will retire from Alumicor at the end of July, after 52 years with the company. The industry veteran has served as an active leader of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) and the CSC Toronto Chapter.

During his years with CSC, Gusterson held numerous leadership positions. He received the CSC President’s Award in 2025 and the CSC Life Membership Award in 2023, the highest accolade the association can bestow on an individual. In 2021, he was inducted into the CSC College of Fellows. He also received the Russell W. Cornell Award in 2013 for sponsoring new CSC members.

Gusterson has volunteered on numerous CSC committees and served as chair and director of the Toronto Chapter. A certified technical representative (CTR) since 2000, he has taught CTR coursework for the Toronto Chapter and has been a member of CSC’s Technical Representative Program since 2012.

CSC recognized his leadership in Toronto with Chapter Awards of Merit in 2009 and 2013, and Programme Director’s Awards in 2014 and 2022 for his work with the education program.

Industry excellence

“We congratulate Steve on a career filled with many accomplishments,” said Slavko Sehovac, Alumicor’s general manager. “We thank him for his dedication to building excellence both within our company and throughout our industry. As a leader and educator, Steve has imparted his knowledge, transferred his network, and soon, enters retirement with our greatest respect and appreciation.”

“I’ve had a long and rewarding career, the vast majority of it with Alumicor, and I’m truly grateful for the people, experiences, and relationships that made it so meaningful,” said Gusterson.

Gusterson joined Alumicor in 1974 with a summer job in the manufacturing facility. He was promoted to vice-president of sales for Ontario in 2015 and later moved into the role of vice-president of pre-construction design in Canada in the 2020s.

In a press release, Alumicor recognized Gusterson’s contributions to the design and construction industry, including his role in creating the Ontario version of the British Columbia Glazing Systems Specifications Manual. That manual became the basis for the 2010 national version, which continues to be referenced today.
