Northcrest Developments selected Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA) as the winner of the international YZD Runway Roadmap, a design guidelines competition to revamp Downsview Airport (now known as YZD).

MVVA will be tasked with creating design guidelines that underpin and shape the long-term transformation of this future Toronto landmark.

Once for flight, The Runway will now act as the connective tissue for the seven new YZD neighbourhoods. It will be transformed into a vibrant, sustainable, pedestrian-first public place.

Northcrest selected MVVA for their proven commitment and capacity to deliver design excellence, adding to a growing list of acclaimed local and international design firms already involved in the transformation of the former airport lands.

The multiple award-winning Downsview Framework Plan, which established the overarching vision for YZD and the surrounding lands, was led by Henning Larsen Architects, KPMB Architects, and SLA.
