Scott Schendel received this year’s F. Ross Browne Award for editorial excellence for his article “Blindside Waterproofing and At-grade Transitions”. The award was handed out at the Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) Conference in Winnipeg last month.

The award, named after the late CSC president (and “Curmudgeon’s Corner” columnist), recognizes the author of an article in Construction Canada for originality, relevance, and style. The magazine’s editorial advisors selected Schendel’s feature, which appeared in the magazine’s March 2026 issue. His colleague Steve Weiterman accepted the certificate on Schendel’s behalf.

The article examines the unique challenges of blindside waterproofing in zero-lot-line construction and explores solutions for various shoring systems.

Schendel is the director of product development for EPRO. He has more than 15 years of relevant building envelope experience with specific expertise in below-grade waterproofing for new construction and restoration applications.

The July issue of Construction Canada will feature an in-depth wrap-up of the CSC Conference and more details of the various awards and events associated with the show.
