An Ontario project is among the winners of the 2014 Brick in Architecture Awards, announced by the Brick Industry Association (BIA).
This year, the program celebrates its 25th anniversary, as it began in 1989. The 40 winners for 2014 were chosen by a panel of industry experts from 150 submissions. Recipients were chosen from across 22 states, in addition to Port Colbourne, Ont.’s Indigo House.
Awarded in the Best in Class: Residential–Single Family category, the Indigo House was designed by Toronto-based firm, Cindy Rendely Architexture. The home is located on a bluff 12 m (40 ft) above Lake Erie. The design incorporates four connected vessels, and the exterior cladding features an indigo blue glazed brick and metal panels.
Other Best in Class winners include:
● Commercial: Sundance Square (Fort Worth, Texas);
● Healthcare Facilities: Mercy Health–West Hospital (Cincinnati, Ohio);
● Paving and Landscape Architecture: One Loudoun Plaza (Ashburn, Virginia); and
● Renovation/Restoration: Thurston Wine House (Paradise Valley, Arizona).
