The fourth annual BC Embodied Carbon Awards celebrated leaders in low-carbon construction across B.C.

The Zero Emissions Innovation Centre (ZEIC), through its Carbon Leadership Forum BC (CLF BC) program, hosted the awards on May 21. The program presented six awards to projects and organizations reducing embodied carbon in B.C.’s built environment. The event also encourages broader action from industry and government to support sustainable building practices and climate goals.

Embodied carbon refers to the carbon emissions associated with materials and construction processes throughout a building’s life cycle, from production to disposal.

“The outstanding projects, professionals, and organizations recognized through the awards are showing that reducing embodied carbon emissions is not only possible, but already happening,” says Stephanie Dalo, program manager, CLF BC.

The winners were recognized for deconstruction (the recovery of materials for reuse), promoting a reuse-first approach, reducing emissions, and advancing net-zero embodied carbon strategies in construction and development projects.
