Quebec has approved plans to modernize the interior of Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.

Tourism Minister Amélie Dionne said the upgrades will help the stadium host events year-round.

According to CBC, the project includes moving seats closer to the pitch, upgrading concession areas, and improving main service points. Crews will also move the lower seating section 28 metres closer on each side.

“The goal is to bring fans closer to the action—whether it’s a game or a show—while also reconfiguring the layout to improve the viewing angle from the stands,” Olympic Park executive director Joelle Brodeur told CBC.

Officials expect to complete the interior renovations and ongoing roof work by 2028.

Dionne did not reveal the cost of the interior overhaul.

“For the time being, we are negotiating and not quoting any figures,” she said.

The roof project, which began in 2024, includes removing the existing structure. It will replace the concrete technical ring with a new steel structure and install a rigid roof. The new design will feature a translucent glass perimeter to bring natural daylight into the stadium while providing permanent weather protection. The new roof is expected to cost about $870 million.
