The Opportunity:
Water
Services ensures the delivery of a safe and reliable water distribution system
that is capable of meeting peak demands with minimum disruption and provides
dependable storm and sanitary sewer systems by conducting regular maintenance
to minimize line or service failure.
The Water Services Equipment Operator (Pipelayer) performs a wide variety of
duties individually and as a member of a team. The Pipelayer is primarily
responsible for assembling and connecting pipe systems for water mains, sewers,
and drains.
Responsibilities include:
• Participate in field level hazard assessments, read, and interpret engineered
drawings, and participate in pre-job planning to understand the project scope
and specifications
• Measure, cut, bevel, and fit pipe to fittings and valves adhering to
industry-specific requirements
• Identify pipes and understand measurements to account for insert depth,
maximum radius bend, and deflection; select correct coupling and gasket
• Ensure torque valves/fittings are in correct value and pattern
• Perform installation and repair work on the following:
- Manholes, catch basins, and vaults
- Benching in manholes
- Water proofing in manholes and vaults
- Fit up and bolt up fittings/valves in vaults
- Hydrants
- Thrust blocks
• Tap and install water services (corporation stop), connect, and install curb
stop
• Drill and install sanitary services (insert-a-tee)
• Regrade/relay sewer services
• Super chlorinate, flush, hydrostatically test watermains
• Select and install correct shoring for trench safety and ensure correct
slopes and setbacks for excavation; ensure correct dewatering of excavation
under environmental rules
• Operate backhoe, track hoe, loader, skid steer, and other equipment as
required
• Install temp water services when required to buildings
• Select and install correct restraints and mechanical joint fittings
You Bring:
• High
School Diploma or GED
• Valid Class 3 driver’s licence with Q endorsement is required
• Valid Class 1 driver’s licence would be considered an asset
• Standard First Aid and CPR would be desirable
• NASSCO certifications would be an asset
• Level 1 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection certification from
Alberta Environment and Protected Areas would be considered an asset
• Two (2) or more years' experience in municipal water/sewer infrastructure
installation and repair, construction, or related field is required
• Two (2) or more years’ experience of Underground Infrastructure is required
• Two (2) or more years’ experience of Track Hoe experience is required
• Knowledge and understanding of safety regulations, requirements, and work
safety
• Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and effectively in all
conditions
• Strong ability to work well with and assist others as a team member
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to respond and interact with customers and residents in a positive
and diplomatic manner
• Undertake all aspects of the job thoroughly and willingly

Additional Information:
This is
a full-time position with an average of 40 hours per week.
Must be willing to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather
conditions, work overtime as required, and participate in the 24 hours on call
schedule on a rotational basis.
