AECOM will provide engineering services for the construction of a new filtration facility at the Mission Hill Water Treatment Plant (MHWTP) in Vernon, British Columbia, which will lead to the plant’s enhanced operations, the system’s reduced water quality risks, and improved redundancy.
AECOM, which received the contract from the Regional District North Okanagan (RDNO), will provide detailed design drawings, tendering, estimating, inspection monitoring, technology evaluation, contract administration, and delivery of documents such as a startup commissioning plan, comprehensive facility operation, maintenance manual, and standard operating procedures.
Kalamalka Lake, the water source treated by the MHWTP, has previously been susceptible to water quality issues caused by turbidity events and seasonal algae, only expected to increase with climate change. The project which includes a new water filtration system, a new building for labs and control rooms, and upgrades to waste stream handling, related piping and equipment, and control systems aims to improve water quality, increase access to clean drinking water, and bolster the resiliency of the plant for the Greater Vernon community year-round.
