CertainTeed Debuts Sustainable CarbonLow™ Wallboard Solutions
In an industry first, CertainTeed Canada has introduced CarbonLow, a new line of low-carbon gypsum panels designed to reduce the environmental impact of construction projects. These products boast up to 60 per cent less embodied carbon cradle-to-gate compared to traditional alternatives, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable building materials.
CarbonLow is manufactured with renewable energy at CertainTeed’s facility in Ville de Sainte-Catherine, Quebec. The plant is transitioning to 100 per cent hydroelectric power from Hydro-Québec, eliminating fossil fuel use and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This gives the facility the distinction of being North America’s first zero-carbon gypsum wallboard plant.
The CarbonLow product line includes Easi-Lite®, Type X, M2Tech®, and GlasRoc®, covering a comprehensive range of interior and exterior gypsum solutions suitable for commercial, institutional, residential, healthcare, and industrial applications. These products require no changes to standard installation practices, making them an accessible choice for contractors and architects aiming to meet decarbonization goals.
This initiative is part of Saint-Gobain’s broader commitment to sustainability, including recent investments in energy efficiency and recycling programs across its Canadian operations. The CarbonLow line not only offers high-performance building materials but also supports the transition to a more sustainable built environment.
