Peel Region Paramedic Services (PRPS) recently commenced work on the new Docksteader Paramedic Reporting Station in Brampton, Ont.

Designed by Diamond Schmitt, the facility will serve as a key hub where paramedics start and end their shift, centralizing and improving services and amenities for paramedics across Peel Region.

The Docksteader Paramedic Reporting Station will be the region’s fifth such facility and its largest.

The building is defined by two 15-m (49-ft) south-facing solar walls whose angle and orientation play a critical role in the building’s massing. Splitting the facility into two wedges, they visually differentiate the vehicle bay and administrative and training blocks from the logistics zone, where equipment and material storage are the primary considerations. In winter, these solar walls reduce heating requirements by 30 per cent.

On track to achieve Zero Carbon Building Design certification and be net-zero energy ready, the station sets a new benchmark for sustainable civic infrastructure.
