Ontario’s light rail extension adds seven new stations

The westward extension of Line 5 Eglinton includes the construction of seven new stations for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, improving the connection between Toronto and Mississauga.
The project consists of a 9.2-km (5.7-mile) extension to the light rail line, featuring seven new stations, four of which are underground, and will run from the already-constructed Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive.
The Trillium Rail Partners consortium, ACCIONA (40 per cent), Amico (30 per cent), and Alberici (30 per cent) will be doing the construction work with design provided by WSP. Trillium Rail Partners will also integrate the railway’s operating and control systems, as well as signalling, communications, and data networks.
Upon completion, Ontario transportation authorities estimate the extension will reduce emissions by up to 5,800 tonnes (6393.4 tons) and, when combined with Line 5 Eglinton, will reduce annual vehicle trips by up to 6.5 million.
