The Role
VanDel Construction is currently seeking an energized and motivated full-time construction carpenter.
Responsibilities:
- Review architectural drawings, structural blueprints, and project sketches to understand design requirements, material needs, and construction dimensions.
- Set out project layouts using precision measuring tools, ensuring all work aligns with applicable building codes and project specifications.
- Measure, cut, shape, and join wood, engineered wood products, lightweight steel framing, and other construction materials to build structural and architectural elements.
- Install foundations, set floor beams, lay subflooring, and frame walls and roof systems for new builds, additions, and renovations.
- Fit and install doors, windows, stair systems, mouldings, hardware, and other trim components to complete architectural finishes.
- Restore, upgrade, and modify wooden structures and building components in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
- Support and supervise apprentices and labourers, ensuring safe work practices, quality workmanship, and adherence to project timelines.
- Prepare or contribute to cost estimates, material takeoffs, and labour projections for clients or internal project planning.
- Accurately measuring, cutting, and shaping lumber, wood, and other building materials;
- Determine the dimensions of the framework to be constructed, measure, and cut the required building materials accordingly, and assemble the materials to form the framework;
- Erecting temporary structures such as scaffolds and hoists;
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems;
- Fit and install trim items, such as doors, windows, stairs, moulding and hardware;
- Performing repairs on existing framework structures that are damaged or structurally unsound to maintain or renovate them;
- Performing cleanups of job sites by clearing away all carpentry debris and waste;
Qualifications:
· Ability to work in a very fast-paced and demanding environment;
· Construction industry experience is an asset
· Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
· Strong measurement and layout skills
· Proficiency with hand and power tools
· Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations
· Ability to construct, install, and repair wood and structural components
· Physical stamina and manual dexterity
· Problem‑solving and job‑site communication skills
Education
• High school diploma/GED preferred

Salary
· $36.05 per hour
· minimum 44-hour work week with overtime available
