The McGill Sustainability Park transforms the former Royal Victoria Hospital site into a centre for teaching and research, defined by two academic pillars: sustainability systems and public policy.

Previously referred to as “The New Vic,” the new campus, designed by Diamond Schmitt/LemayMichaud Architectes, pays tribute to the hospital’s historic role before its relocation to the McGill University Health Centre’s Glen site.

A historic building complex under renovation, featuring stone architecture, scaffolding, and construction equipment against a lush hillside.

The design combines the retention and rejuvenation of heritage buildings and landscapes with advanced research infrastructure, environmental design, and open, inclusive architecture—adapting the former hospital focused on healing the body into a new campus focused on healing the planet.

The teams have completed the deconstruction of most heritage buildings, setting the ground for McGill’s new buildings, which are being built to LEED standards of sustainability.

Construction is expected to finish in 2029.
