B.C. research building demonstrates Passive House benefits

The Wood Innovation Research Lab (WIRL) at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has set a new standard for airtightness. The 500-mm (20-in.) wide walls of the building are rated R-80 and contain blown-in mineral wool insulation. The roof is rated R-100 and the floor sits atop 200 mm (8 in.) of expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation.
