Building information modelling is being employed by more practitioners to document greater project scopes for increasingly diverse purposes over extended project phases. The good news is, by its very nature, the more BIM is used, the more valuable it becomes. However, along with this increased utility of data, there is an exponentially growing burden of complexity and potential for conflicts and confusion. Like any other aspect of a project, BIM use needs to be managed to ensure it controls, rather than increases, risk and costs.
