Peter Busby, chair of CaGBC, spoke about the future of green building in Canada.

In June, more than 1200 delegates flocked to downtown Toronto for the largest ever national green building summit. Hosted by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Shifting Into the Mainstream fostered a meeting of minds over three days. More than 40 speakers presented on various topics such as:
• green building opportunities in Canada;
• shared learnings from European and U.S. building experts;
• updates on pilot projects for K–12 schools, and government, utility, and commercial buildings; and
• new rating systems for homes and neigbourhood development.

CaGBC's program to develop the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system was discussed, along with the goal of achieving carbon-neutral buildings and communities by 2030. Celebrity highlights included Toronto Mayor David Miller's welcome address and David Suzuki's keynote speech.

Plans are already underway for next year's event. Visit www.shiftingintothemainstream.ca.
