Looking for those who green Toronto

In last year's Green Toronto awards, architectsAlliance took the top prize in design for their Sackville-Dundas Apartments, which is part of Phase 1 of the Regent Park revitalization project.

Toronto is looking to honour those who have helped make Ontario's capital a more energy-efficient, environmentally responsible place. Until February 6, nominees will be accepted for the Eighth Annual Green Toronto Awards, which includes categories for businesses, water conservation, and community projects.

Any person, project, initiative, or company may be nominated, provided they reside in Toronto or contribute directly to its greening. Of particular interest to construction professionals is the Green Design Award, which recognizes leadership in sustainable homes, buildings, and products. Examples of eligible projects include the invention or use of new technologies or products, along with structures that reduce the built environment's impact.

Winners receive $5000 and are celebrated at a special evening event at the Green Living Show, which Toronto hosts in April. For more information on the program, run by the City of Toronto in partnership with Green Living Enterprises, visit www.toronto.ca/greentorontoawards/index.htm.
