| Canadian-based OSB organization dissolves |
|
The Structural Board Association (SBA), an international organization representing oriented strandboard (OSB) manufacturers is no more... but it will remerge under new ownership. SBA, headquartered in Markham, Ont., was founded in 1976 to raise awareness about OSB through marketing, research, and technical development. With oriented strandboard being used in more than 60 per cent of all structural panel applications in construction (close to 75 per cent for residential), the association's mandate has been considered filled. In late April, at the OSB World Symposium in San Antonio, Texas, the association was dissolved by its board of directors. By year's end, SBA assets—including its name and logo, extensive technical library, and www.osbguide.com —are to be acquired by TECO, a U.S. certifications and testing company for engineered wood. TECO will take over SBA's programs, along with the right to host future OSB World Symposiums.
