At the 2007 National Concrete Canoe Competition, the University of Wisconsin—Madison Badgers took home their fifth straight win, paddling Descendent to victory.

Concrete canoes may sound as successful as lead balloons, but the National Concrete Canoe Competition entering its 21st year dispels that notion. The annual event, organized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), is coming to Canada. From June 19 to 21, Montreal's École de technologie supérieure will be the site of 18 student teams (winners from regional competitions across the continent), as they race their Division 03 boats across Notre-Dame Island's Olympic Basin.

The $9000 US in scholarship prize money goes to the team with the highest winning score based on:
• engineering design and construction principles used in canoe creation;
• technical design report;
• formal business presentation; and
• race times in five different race types.

This year will mark the first time the ‘Americas' Cup of Civil Engineering' is held outside the United States.
