Regina is gaining a hotel, retail, and condominium project that is 97 m (318 ft) high, making it the tallest building in Saskatchewan. Capital Pointe, designed by Chamberlain Architects, will be located where the Plains Hotel currently resides. The tallest part of the complex was originally going to be the 19-storey condominium section, but currently the plan is for it to reach 26 storeys. The building will be topped with an 8-m (26-ft) spire that pushes its height, making the structure taller than the 84-m (276-ft) Delta Regina Hotel. There will be a nine-storey Hilton Garden Inn, a 26-storey condominium tower, and retail located on the ground floor of the complex, facing both Victoria and Albert Streets. The structure is designed to meet the guidelines of the Regina Walk to Work Neighbourhood Plan. The hotel's restaurant and lounge are at the corner of the development, lining the street with active use (combined with the condo lobby and retail spaces). The building will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified, and have green roofs atop the complex's hotel portion. "This complex will bring a new level of design to the condominium market for Regina, and the hotel will bring needed rooms to the downtown core," said Chamberlain Companies' project architect Jeremiah Edmonds. "We use the latest in building information modelling (BIM) as a very important tool in our process to communicate our design concepts, to test our designs with regard to energy use and daylight/shadow/wind effect simulations, and to produce our working drawings." Construction is predicted to commence this August, with the project scheduled to be complete in January 2013.
