The 2009 Steel Joist Institute (SJI) Design Award in the non-industrial category went to the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Facilities, designed by Glotman Simpson Consulting Engineers. Canadian projects constructed with steel joists are eligible for this year's Steel Joist Institute (SJI) awards. The deadline to enter the 2010 SJI Design Awards is approaching, and the winning project teams will receive $2000 in their name toward a scholarship. Each category's winning entry will give the money to an engineering student at its school of choice. The awards will be presented in three categories: Projects must be located in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, and the steel joists and/or joist girders must be manufactured by an active member of SJI. Projects must have been constructed within the last three years, and can be new buildings or major retrofit expansion projects. Projects must be entered by August 2, and winners will be announced in November. To fill out an online entry form, visit www.steeljoist.org/awards.
