Ontario awards projects for design excellence

The Humber Arboretum Centre for Urban Ecology (CUE) won one of the 15 Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Design Excellence Awards, as well as the Michael V. and Wanda Plachta Award for Architecture.

The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) has announced its 2010 award recipients, presenting 15 projects with various honours.

The People's Choice Award went to Maki and Associates and Moriyama & Teshima Architects for the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat (Ottawa). The Best of Show was given to Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects for the Royal Conservatory TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning (Toronto).

Other award winners include:
• Landmark Award: Lapierre House (St. Catherines)––James E. Secord and Saul Herzog;
• Michael V. and Wanda Plachta Award: Centre for Urban Ecology (Toronto)—Taylor Hazell Architects Ltd. with Architects Alliance and gh3 inc.;
• Design Excellence: 60 Richmond Street Housing Development (Toronto)—Teeple Architects Inc.;
• Design Excellence: Southbrook Vineyards (Niagara-on-the-Lake)—Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc.; and
• Design Excellence: Fire & Emergency Services Training Institute (Mississauga)––Kleinfeldt Mychajlowycz Architects Inc.
