| Canadian modular projects honoured |
Photos courtesy Modular Building Institute The Whistler, B.C. Olympic Athletes' Village was chosen as the permanent modular winner in the Best of Show category at this year's MBI awards. Whistler's Olympic Athletes' Village has won 'Best of Show' in the Modular Building Institute (MBI) Awards of Distinction contest. Britco Structures' 6511-m2 (70,085-sf) project was designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standards and "Whistler Green" guidelines. The project incorporates an environmental and wildlife management plan. All the village areas are heated and cooled with a hydronic system that uses an in-ground district energy system with low-temperature radiant ceiling panels for delivering heat. The water source is heated by a central plant that extracts heat from Whistler's Wastewater treatment plant and is supplemented during peak demand by boilers fired with gas extracted from a decommissioned landfill.
