The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Restoration Services Centre (Vaughan, Ont.) used a similar tool to Enermodal's new Request for Proposal (RFP) resource. Certified Platinum, it received all LEED-related services from one consultant and achieved 65 per cent in energy savings and 85 per cent in water savings. Canadian firm Enermodal Engineering has released a generic Request for Proposal (RFP) tool to help building owners and architects working on green projects.
The nine-page RFP includes customizable highlighted sections and covers all available green building services related to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), including: Stephen Carpenter, Enermodal president and CaGBC Technical Advisory Group chair, said the idea with the RFP tool is architects or building owners can insert the language right into their RFP to ensure they get a competent consultant to smoothen the LEED process. "With the increasing amount of interest in LEED, there is a wider range of services offered," he told Construction Canada Online. "This tool helps architects and building owners get what they expect from their consultant through an effective RFP process. This will also help contractors and others in the design and construction industry in that it requires the LEED consultant to provide good value and not 'download' the LEED credit documentation work to other consultants. Also, good green buildings include the full range of green building services provided by a consultant, especially the energy modelling, commissioning, and measurement and verification." The RFP tool is available at www.enermodal.com.
