| Self-cleaning Concrete Luncheon hosted by CSC Hamilton |
|
On March 18, CSC's Hamilton Chapter is presenting a talk dealing with photocatalytic cement—a technology billed as being 'self-cleaning' and 'de-polluting.' For the lunchtime seminar, Essroc Italcementi Group's Angie Luis, P.Eng., LEED AP, will discuss a proprietary formula that uses the principle of photocatalysis to destroy atmospheric compounds that discolour concrete surfaces and potentially harm people. An active ingredient uses ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun to accelerate the formation of strong oxidizing reagents that then decompose problematic substances in the atmosphere. The technology can be potentially used in any product containing a cementitious material—applications range from precast panels to finish coat plaster. The $25-event kicks off with lunch at the Royal Canadian Legion (828 Legion Rd.) in Burlington, Ont., at 11:30 a.m. It qualifies for Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) self-directed hours.
