Construction of the hotel part of the $500-million Trump International Hotel & Tower in Toronto has now begun. Since the initial concrete pour for the tower's foundation last September, the building's first seven floors—dedicated for the parking garage and hotel lobby—have been completed. The eighth-storey pour represents start of construction on the floors designed for hotel condominiums, administrative offices, and meeting rooms. During construction, the tower's downtown location has posed a number of logistical challenges, leading to innovative solutions. For example, to minimize traffic disruption at the busy Bay-Adelaide intersection, a temporary ramp providing truck access directly to the building was installed. Trucks can enter on one end, deliver materials, and exit on the other side of the site, enabling materials to be moved quickly and conveniently. An innovative 'man and material hoist' system will also be implemented to ensure efficient construction. The hotel floors are expected to be completed over the next few months.
