CIPEC received its championship title at the ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry, held in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Last month, the American Council for an Energy-efficient Economy (ACEEE) declared the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) a 'Champion of Energy Efficiency.' The first organization outside the United States to garner this title, CIPEC was recognized for showing strong leadership in the development and implementation of energy efficiency initiatives for the industry.

As a voluntary partnership between the federal government and industry representing more than 98 per cent of all industrial energy use in the Canada, CIPEC aims to help companies reduce costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while increasing profits. CIPEC is also responsible for delivering Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan's) ecoENERGY for Industry and ecoENERGY Retrofit initiatives. These and other CIPEC programs are designed to improve industrial energy intensity and reduce energy-related industrial GHGs and air pollution.
