In recognition of their leadership and commitment to global social change, the co-founders of Engineers without Borders (EWB) received honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies degrees from Seneca College.

Parker Mitchell and George Roter co-founded the organization in 2000, with the aim of applying engineers' unique problem-solving skill set to the challenges of global poverty. In the last nine years, the organization has sent more than 400 volunteers to 25 countries. Today, EWB has approximately 40,000 members across Canada.

In 2006, Mitchell and Roter were members of Governor General Michaëlle Jean's first State visit to Africa. Both have also participated in various not-for-profit organizations.

Mitchell and Roter received their degrees at Seneca College's convocation last month.

"Just as [students] are transformed, they leave our walls to become the leaders of tomorrow and make change happen elsewhere," said Seneca president Rick Miner. Parker Mitchell and George Roter are shining examples of this and we are proud to honour their accomplishments."
