Building information modelling (BIM) gets a boost with the newly launched Canada BIM Council. As the only self-regulating BIM authority in the country, the organization aims to act as a non-proprietary resource and standards council for businesses, professionals, educators, and purchasers of construction and related services. Derek Smith, interim administrator of the Canada BIM Council, believes the organization will assist the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry in making sense of all the information surrounding BIM on the Internet and through various seminars. "What we aim to do by bringing together the leaders of BIM in Canada under one umbrella is to fully utilize the skill and knowledge gained, deploy standards and information, and provide solutions to those aiming to adopt the technology over the next decade," Smith told Construction Canada Online. Federally incorporated in late 2008, the council expects to be completely functional with a website, member services, and structure for model certification standards within the next six months.
