A Vancouver architect (and Construction Canada author) has been named as one of five Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Award (CWEA) winners for 2008. Approximately 1200 women entrepreneurs were nominated for this year's awards, a program run by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).

Teresa Coady, AIA, AAA, MAIBC, FRAIC, LEED AP, received the Bell Trailblazer Award in a Toronto ceremony last week. She is the only architect to serve on the B.C. provincial government's Climate Action Team (CAT), which is developing strategies to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Her firm, Bunting Coady Architects, is responsible for more square footage of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED-NC) Gold-certified institutional and commercial projects than any other group in North America. Her projects have included the University of British Columbia (UBC) Life Sciences Centre, the Vancouver Port Authority Head Office, the Kwantlen Trades and Technology Centre, and the Douglas Border Crossing.

Coady was the co-author of a feature article dealing with another one of her firm's projectsâ??the National Research Council's (NRC's) Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation facilityâ??in the November 2008 issue of Construction Canada. The annual CWEA event recognizes Canadian women entrepreneurs who have strong vision and passion in pursing their dreams, and have become positive role models.
