Mechanical insulation talk in Burlington, Ont.

On Thursday, May 28, the Hamilton Chapter of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) is presenting a 'lunch and learn' session on mechanical insulation.

Entitled "Connecting Mechanical Insulation to LEED: How Important is Mechanical Insulation Anyway?," the talk examines various types of insulation products and how they fit into the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED Canada) paradigm. It explores possibilities in quantifying energy savings by upgrading from the minimum insulation thickness requirements stipulated in the Modern National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB).

The speaker, Steve Clayman, CSC, is a certified insulation energy appraiser, with more than three decades of experience in construction products, with the emphasis on mechanical and architectural insulation products. He recently wrote an article dealing with mechanical insulation in the March 2009 issue of Construction Canada.

Presented on behalf of the Thermal Insulation Association of Canada (TIAC), Clayman's seminar qualifies for Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) self-directed hours. It takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion at 828 Legion Road in Burlington, Ont. Registration ($25) begins at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon and the one-hour presentation following at 12:45 p.m. For more information, contact Terry Johnson, FCSC, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
